The Royal Bank is denying a New York Times report – that it was able to read, write and delete users’ messages on Facebook.

The newspaper reports Facebook gave R-B-C, Microsoft, Spotify, Netflix and more than 150 other companies – the ability to see private messages between its users – without their permission or knowledge.

R-B-C says it was given permission to send messages to Facebook users from 2013 to 2015 through a mobile app service for its customers – but that it did not have the ability to see users’ messages.

In another development, the attorney general for the District of Columbia has filed a lawsuit against Facebook – for allowing data-mining firm Cambridge Analytica to improperly access data – from as many as 87-million users.
