Prime Minister Justin Trudeau does not believe that the detainment of a third Canadian now in China has anything to do with two others being held in that country.
Global Affairs Canada first confirmed it’s ”aware of a Canadian citizen detained in China.”
Trudeau later said the early indications are that this is separate from the other cases.

Former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig and entrepreneur Michael Spavor were detained after the chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies, Mung Wanzhou, was arrested on fraud allegations at the request of the U.S.
While they are being held on suspicion of endangering China’s national security, Trudeau says ”the third case doesn’t appear, at this point, and of course we only have the preliminary indications that it’s not linked to a matter of national security for the Chinese.”
The prime minister adds the government has always been unequivocal in standing up for human rights and the rule of law.
