Penny Marshall who co-starred as a Milwaukee brewery worker in the popular 70s and 80s sitcom ”Laverne & Shirley” has died of complications from diabetes.
She was 75.
”Laverne & Shirley,” a spinoff of ”Happy Days,” starred Penny Marshall as feisty Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as idealistic Shirley Feeney, two 1950’s roommates, who worked on the assembly line at the Shotz Brewery.
Marshall was the first woman in Hollywood to direct a film that grossed more than 100-million with ”Big,” the 1988 comedy starring Tom Hanks.
She also directed ”A League of Their Own,” ”Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and ”Awakenings”.
