The King Street Pilot Project, which was scheduled to run to the end of this year, will now remain until at least through the end of July.
Toronto City Council has voted 19-3 to extend the pilot project so that politicians can further study whether or not to make it permanent.
Launched in November 2017, the project gives the King streetcar – the busiest surface route in the city – priority between Bathurst and Jarvis Streets.
The TTC reports travel times are about five to six minutes faster both directions during the afternoon rush hour.
While transit users have given the project thumbs up, some businesses say the removal of parking and other restrictions have hurt their bottom line.
