BlackBerry is rolling out a new service for “smart city” traffic technology – called The Security Credential Management System – which provides the infrastructure for vehicles and traffic lights – to exchange information securely.

The Waterloo-based tech giant says the system is vital in a “smart city” environment – to make sure that users can trust the validity of information they get from other systems.

The service is scheduled to be initially used in Ottawa – on a 16 kilometre autonomous vehicle test track – resembling a miniature city.
