Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies, is being accused of fraud by the U.S.government, which wants her extradited from Canada to face the charge.
The Crown told her bail hearing before a B.C. Supreme Court judge that the U.S. alleges Huawei used subsidiary Skycom to do business with Iran, violating sanctions against that country.
The Crown considers her a flight risk and opposes Meng’s release.
Her lawyer says his client’s prominent and would not violate a court order if released.
Meanwhile, Canada’s ambassador in Beijing has briefed the Chinese on the case.
Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland says John McCallum’s assured China that due process is being followed and consular access will be provided.
