Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney delivered one of four eulogies at the state funeral for former President George H. W. Bush at Washington National Cathedral, attended by family former presidents and dignitaries from around the world.
Mulroney paid tribute to his close friend, reflecting on how the 41st U.S. president will be remembered.
”I believe it will be said that no occupant of the Oval Office was more courageous, more principled and more honourable than George Herbert Walker Bush.”
Mulroney said Bush was a strong leader who helped oversee the end of the Cold War, the collapse of the Soviet Union and was ”responsible for the North American Free Trade Agreement.”
With Donald Trump, a NAFTA critic, in the front pew, the former prime minister added the deal ”created the largest and richest free trade area in the history of the world” and was ”recently modernized and improved by new administrations.
The other eulogies were delivered by son and former President George W. Bush, presidential historian Jon Meacham, and former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson.
