City staff propose slashing the number of committees at Toronto city hall and reducing appointments to boards, while a special committee takes a closer look at governance matters arising from the province’s decision to reduce the size of council.
The staff report will be considered at the first meeting of the new council next week.
The report’s recommendations, which still have to be approved by two-thirds of council, say the interim changes are necessary to allow council to function properly while being ”recalibrated” for the new smaller council.
If the proposed changes are not made, then staff say the 25 councillors would hold 97 seats on 14 committees along with 388 seats on 170 agencies and boards.
