”Very productive” is how the president of Canada’s largest private sector union described the meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the day after GM announced plans to close the plant in Oshawa.

Jerry Dias says the purpose of the closed door meeting was to lay all the cards on the table.
”We are not over emphasizing the fact.  We are not embellishing the facts.  We are not utilizing scare tactics but the reality is is GM is on the cusp of complete disinvestment in Canada, and that will lead to a catastrophic end to Canada’s most lucrative export industry.”
Dias adds that can’t be allowed without a fight and that this is ”truly a time for bold leadership.”
The Unifor leader feels Trudeau and President Donald Trump should pursue a coordinated strategy to stop the plant closures.
Dias is also calling for new tariffs on all GM-made vehicles from Mexico.
