As he prepares to give the province’s fall economic update Thursday afternoon at 1:15, Finance Minister Vic Fedeli is defending his reputation against allegations made by former disgraced Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown in his new tell-all book.

Brown’s new book also contains allegations that his former party spied on him as far back as 2015.

Entitled Takedown: The Attempted Political Assassination of Patrick Brown, the book follows Brown’s rise in politics, starting with his nine-year-old self writing a letter to then-prime minister Brian Mulroney and ending with reflections on his life after his abrupt resignation as Progressive Conservative leader earlier this year, following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Brown alleges Fedeli was accused of inappropriate behaviour by a party staffer in December of last year, but Brown also says the accusations were not anything he could picture being consistent with Fedeli’s character. Brown alleges that when he spoke to the complainant she asked that the matter go no further, so he says he respected her wishes.

Fedeli has released a statement saying the allegations are categorically false and without merit and he is prepared to take legal action.

Brown resigned his position as PC leader in January amid sexual misconduct allegations. He has since bounced back, winning the municipal election in Brampton as that city’s new mayor.

Brown is in the midst of an $8-million defamation lawsuit against CTV News for publishing the original story detailing the allegations against him, which he has always denied. CTV has filed a statement of defence. The case has not yet been heard in court.

Patrick Brown will have more to say about his autobiography when he joins Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer after Thursday’s noon news.
