Canada is standing firm against Chinese criticism – after the Trudeau government rallied more than a dozen countries – in expressing concern to Beijing about its jailing of hundreds of thousands of Muslims.
The Chinese say a letter – sent by Canada’s envoy – violates the terms of the Vienna Convention governing diplomatic relations – which says ambassadors should not .. quote – “interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.”
Foreign Affairs spokesman Adam Austen says Canada is deeply concerned by reports of the mass detention, repression and surveillance of Uighurs – and other Muslims.
