Celebrated Canadian writer Charles Foran has another accolade to add to his trophy case.

The Toronto-based author has won the $50,000 Writers’ Trust Fellowship which is awarded to a promising writer to ease the burden of financial concerns and allow for as much creative freedom as possible.

Foran has also won the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction, the Charles Taylor Prize and a Governor General’s Literary Award and is a member of the Order of Canada.

The 58-year old was named the 2018 Writer’s Trust recipient last night at a gala in Toronto which was expected to raise more than $250,000 in support of Writers’ Trust programming.

Foran’s books include the 2011 biography “Mordecai: The Life & Times” about Montreal literary provocateur Mordecai Richler.
