Amid allegations of sexual impropriety, the Ford government is sticking to its explanation for the abrupt resignation of former cabinet minister Jim Wilson, but saying little about the departure of a senior adviser to the premier, Andrew Kimber.
According to a TV report, that has not been independently verified, Wilson is said to have stepped down as Economic Development and Trade Minister, as well as from the PC caucus, after he was confronted with the allegations.
The premier’s office became aware of the allegations late Friday afternoon, and soon after Doug Ford’s office issued the statement that Wilson would seek treatment for ”addiction issues”.
The opposition is demanding more answers about Wilson’s resignation, which prompted today’s cabinet shuffle.
House Leader Todd Smith is taking on Wilson’s role as minister of economic development.
Meanwhile, the premier’s office has not given a reason for Kimber’s departure, saying in a statement, as matter of policy, it does not comment on specific details of internal staffing matters.
