The Art Gallery of Ontario wants the success of its recent Infinity Mirrors exhibit to go on – into infinity.
The AGO is turning to fans of last spring’s blockbuster success – to help buy an Infinity Mirror Room by artist Yayoi Kusama – for its permanent collection.
CEO Stephan Jost – the head of collections, exhibitions and programs – has announced an online crowdfunding campaign – starting today – that the gallery hopes will add an Infinity Mirror room to its location next spring.
The installation costs two-million dollars. The AGO has already secured one-million of that – and Jost says the gallery is asking fans to raise one-point-three million dollars in 30 days.
The extra 300-thousand would help pay for expenses such as the campaign and set-up of the immersive piece.
Last spring, more than 165-thousand people caught the Instagram-friendly exhibit “Yayoi Kusama:Infinity Mirrors.”
