Stompin’ Tom Connors hockey anthem will be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF) in a special ceremony this Saturday before the Leafs-Jets game.
Released in 1973, the beloved song and unofficial national anthem is celebrating its 45th anniversary as a staple played throughout NHL arenas.
”There’s not a more fitting stage to celebrate Stompin’ Tom’s ‘The Hockey Song’ than at an NHL game.  We are very excited to see the crowd’s passion for the song and to honour this classic into the Songwriters Hall of Fame,” said Vanessa Thomas of CSHF.
The son of late Stompin’ Tom Connors, Tom Jr., and family will be presented with a plaque at Scotiabank Arena Saturday night.
Stompin’ Tom died in 2013 at the age of 79.
