35-year-old Michelle Hanson of Amaranth Township, was in a minivan with her son, Kaden Young, early morning on February 21 when OPP say she went around a road closure sign.
The road was washed out and the vehicle ended up in the Grand River.
Police say as mother and child exited the minivan, she lost her grip on the boy and he was swept away.
His body was recovered two months later, April 21.
In addition to impaired driving, Hanson is charged with dangerous driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.
