Rumoured for weeks now, the team made it official ahead of today’s final home game of the regular season.
”It’s probably time for change.  We both agreed the time is right,” said the 56-year-old Gibbons, adding while not ready to retire as a major league manager, he would like to remain in the game, perhaps in a special assignment role.
With four games left in the season, he has a 791-787 record in 11 seasons over two stints as Jays manager.
Gibbons led the team to of its seven trips to the post-season, memorable runs that ended in losses in the American League Championship Series in 2015 and 2016.
