The words of Ontario Finance Minster Vic Fedeli as he told the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto that the Wynne government’s left the province with a $15-billion dollar deficit this fiscal year, not the $6.7-billion projected in the spring budget.
That’s one of the findings of an independent inquiry into accounting practices under the previous government.
Fedeli also released figures for the past year showing actual spending and revenue for 2017-18.
There’s a deficit of $3.7-billion rather than the balanced budget projected by the Liberals.
The Ford Conservatives have also commissioned a line-by-line audit of government spending which is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath has said she’s worried the Tories will use the findings to cut and privatize public services.
