The Progressive Conservative government says it’s replacing nine aging O-P-P detachments because state-of-the-art facilities are needed – to help keep communities safe.

Bird Construction has been awarded the $182 million dollar contract to design, build and finance the new facilities in Moosonee, Fort Frances, Hawkesbury, Huron County, West Parry Sound, Manitoulin Island, Mississauga, Marathon and Orillia.

The government says the upgrades will address health and safety issues – and problems that arise due to lack of space.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall – and is expected to be substantially complete by late 2020.
