With those words, Premier Doug Ford announced the province will invest $25-million to try and get handle on violent crime.
This money is on top of the $76-million it’s already provided.
As part of the announcement, $7.6-million will go toward what Ford calls ”legal SWAT teams” that will operate at each of Toronto’s provincial courthouses.
Every one will be led by a Crown Attorney with the mandate to focus solely on ensuring violent gun criminals are denied bail and remain behind bars.
And each team will be supported by bail compliance officers, who will make sure those who are out on bail are not violating any terms of their release.
Police Chief Mark Saunders says the announcement shows the government has listened to his concerns.
The premier asks both the city and Ottawa to match the province’s funding commitment.
