Watch your step! Accidental falls are sending more Canadians to the hospital than ever before.

In fact, unintentional falls are the most common form of injury across the country.

A new report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information says in 2016-17, more than 653,000 of than two-million-plus injury-related emergency department visits were due to accidental falls.

Of these falls, more than 152,000 resulted in hospital admissions, up from just over 146,000 the previous year.

And people who’ve fallen end up staying in hospital longer than for other medical reasons, for 2 weeks rather than 1 week.
