Facebook Canada is launching a third-party, fact-checking program – to hunt for fake news – and give users more context on articles they read on the platform.
It’s a collaboration with the newswire service Agence France-Presse which will have fact-checkers in Canada – to review stories from local news outlets and rate their accuracy.
Any content that fact-checkers label as false – or a mixture of accurate and inaccurate – will appear further down in news feeds – and pages that repeatedly share fake news – will have their ability to make money and advertise removed after several offences.
