U.S. health regulators have approved the first prescription drug made from marijuana.
It’s a health milestone that could spur more research – into a drug that remains illegal under American federal law.
The U-S Food and Drug Administration today approved the medication from G-W Pharmaceuticals – to treat two rare forms of childhood epilepsy.
The strawberry-flavoured syrup is a purified form of a chemical in the cannabis plant – but not the one that gets users high.
F-D-A officials say the drug reduced seizures – when it is combined with older epilepsy drugs.
