Close to three-million more refugees around the world than the previous year – the largest year-over-year increase the UN’s ever seen.
Canada was the ninth-largest recipients of asylum seekers, with 27,800 claims in 2017 – more than double the number of claims the previous year.
For the first time in five years, the U.S. became the largest recipient of asylum claims with a 27% increase over 2016.
