Sir Paul McCartney was made a Companion of Honour in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
The 75-year-old singer, songwriter was presented with the award for services to music by the Queen, 21 years after she knighted the former Beatle.
Paying tribute to his late parents, he said in a written statement: ”I see this as a huge honour for me and my family and I think of how proud my Liverpool mum and dad would have been to see this.”
McCartney was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1965 along with the other members of The Beatles.
The honour means that Sir Paul McCartney, Kt, MBE will now also include the initials CH after his name.
Just yesterday, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London announced McCartney has donated 63 photos taken by his late wife Linda to the museum’s new photography centre that opens October 12.
