The city of Toronto Ombudsman Susan Opler has found city staff provided ”overwhelmingly outdated, inaccurate and inconsistent” information about the shelter system – during extreme cold stretches this past winter.
And in at least three cases – the public was told a given facility was full – when dozens of beds were actually available.
The ombudsman’s made 18 recommendations –   calling half of them ”urgent.”
Mayor John Tory says he’s encouraged that staff have accepted and responded to the recommendations.
