Canadians officials are again disagreeing with Donald Trump’s claim that the U.S. runs a trade deficit with this country.

The president boasted in a speech Wednesday that he made up figures in a meeting with Justin Trudeau, and doubled down on the deficit claim on Twitter today.
“We do have a trade deficit with Canada, as we do with almost all countries.”
But a spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland disputes Trump’s numbers, pointing out the countries have a balanced, mutually beneficial trading relationship, and that Washington’s own numbers show the U.S. has a trade surplus with Canada.
NDP trade critic Tracey Ramsey says it’s time the prime minister reinforce the facts in a face-to-face with Trump.
The New Democrats says it’s clear Trudeau’s not being taken seriously in Washington.
