The U.S. House Intelligence Committee has released a classified Republican memo on the Russia probe.
President Donald Trump approved release of the document that alleges the FBI abused government surveillance powers in its investigation into possible co-operation between Russia and the Trump election campaign.
The White House says Trump did so because he feels the public interest outweighs any classification concerns.
The president saying he’s disturbed by what he’s read.
”A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves,” said Trump.
The FBI and Justice Department opposed the memo’s release with the FBI claiming it has ”grave concerns” about the four-page memo’s accuracy.
House Intelligence Committee Republicans say they found ”serious violations of the public trust”.
House Democrats are angry alleging it’s an underhanded effort to protect the president and discredit the investigations into possible election interference.
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi says by releasing it Trump has ”sent his friend (Russian President Vladimir) Putin a bouquet.”
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee say House Republicans are ”accomplices” to obstruction of justice.
