Toronto police are going into partnership with Ryerson University – in a program that will see the school offering courses to city cops.

It’s part of a continuing initiative to modernize policing in Toronto.

Ryerson has designed a new course on diversity and “bias avoidance” specifically for officers – and members of the force will also be able to enrol in existing courses at the school – and earn credits toward university certificates, diplomas and degrees through the program.

Police say the arrangement is meant to augment instruction received at police college – and the connection to Ryerson will ensure that existing courses meet the standards of the “broader community”.
