David Livingston, who was chief of staff to former premier Dalton McGuinty, has been found guilty of destroying documents related to the cancellation of gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga ahead of the 2011 provincial election.
He was charged with attempted mischief and illegal use of a computer.
Livingston’s deputy, Laura Miller, was also charged but was found not guilty.
Justice Timothy Lipson says Livingston was a sophisticated individual who knew was he was doing.
”Mr. Livingston resorted to extreme and unauthorized measures” in a ”scorched-earth strategy,” said the judge in his lengthy decision.
He called some of their explanations ”implausible,” characterizing their tactics as ”dishonest”.
