U.S. President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about two conversations with the Russian ambassador, including one about a United Nations Security Council vote condemning Israel.

This is the first plea by any of the four former Trump advisers charged so far in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Flynn’s been under scrutiny for a number of allegations including his lobbying work on behalf of Turkey, but given he’s charged with one count of making false statements, he’s co-operating with the investigation as part of a plea deal.
White House lawyer Ty Cobb is trying to distance the plea from Trump, saying nothing in the plea or charge implicates anyone other than Flynn.
However, the former three-star general claims a senior Trump transition team member directed him to get in touch with Russian officials.
That member is reportedly Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Mueller’s said to be investigating why Kushner would have given such instructions before Trump assumed the presidency and why Flynn lied about it.
Last month three other Trump campaign officials were charged, former chair Paul Manafort, his business associate Rick Gates and former foreign policy adviser, George Papadopoulos.
