The Toronto District School Board is a step closer to formally ending the School Resource Officer program at three dozen Toronto schools.
The board’s planning and priorities committee heard from a number of delegations on a staff report last night that said some 2,000 students feel threatened and uncomfortable by the program.
The report recommend ending the program but urged the school board and the police to continue to work together to ensure safety in learning.
The program was implemented after 15-year-old Jordan Manners was shot to death inside C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute in 2007.
The issue will be decided at the full school board meeting November 22nd.
