Canada will open its doors to almost one-million immigrants the next three years.
Releasing its multi-year strategy, the Trudeau Liberals call it ”the most ambitious immigration levels in recent history.”
The number of economic migrants, family reunifications and refugees will rise from 300,000 this year to 310,000 in 2018, to 330,000 in 2019 and 340,000 in 2020.
Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen says the targets will bring the country’s immigration to nearly one-percent of the population, which will help offset the aging demographic.
Hussen adds immigration drives innovation and strengthens the economy, and he rejects some claims that newcomers drain Canada’s resources and become a burden on society.
