Thirty six people have put their names forward to replace Pam McConnell, the late Councillor for Toronto Centre Rosedale.
Susan Gafka is among the crowd, hoping to become the city’s first openly trans councillor. Gafka says she is interested in keeping McConnell’s work as a champion of poverty reduction.
Among the others: a former city hall manager, a transit expert, a musician and Mike Creek, an outspoken champion of the poor and advocate for welfare reform who has been endorsed by the McConnel family.
McConnell died in July at the age of 72.
Toronto City Council will make the appointment Thursday.
