At least 11 Canadian locations are among the nearly 240 bids to be online retailer Amazon’s second headquarters.
Amazon.com did not list which ones applied but said the proposals came from six provinces, 43 U.S. states, as well as Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico and three Mexican states.
Besides looking for financial incentives, Amazon’s criteria included the location needs to be near a metropolitan area with a population of over 1,000,000, within 45 minutes of an international airport, direct access to mass transit and able to attract top tech talent.
Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary and Halifax are some of the Canadian cities that submitted proposals.
Amazon will announce a decision sometime next year.
