How have beauty standards changed over time?

It turns out that in 2017 a wider variety of skin colours and older age groups are increasingly considered the most beautiful.

Researchers at Boston University Medical Center conducted a study to compare standards of beauty in 1990 with today.

They compared People Magazine’s World’s Most Beautiful list from 1990 to the list they published in 2017.

The 2017 issue featured a greater variety of darker skin complexions and also a significant increase in celebrities 35 years and older.

This may indicate that standards of beauty change over time, especially as people are exposed to new cultures and different norms in the media.

You can read about the study in JAMA Dermatology.
