Most Canadians don’t want our country going down the same path as the United States, but the margin is not that wide.

An Ekos-Canadian Press survey asked Canadians whether they’d like to see Canada become more or less like the U.S., or for things to remain as they are.

Fifty-two percent say they’d like this country to be less like the U.S. and 60 percent of those surveyed don’t want a “Canada First” policy that’s similar to U.S. President Donald Trump’s “America First” approach.

Ekos president Frank Graves says while the data suggests Canada wants to be a more open country, not all indicators point in that direction.

Thirty-seven percent of those surveyed say Canada admits too many visible minorities.
