The Wynne Liberals at Queen’s Park are being accused of trying to make abortion rights into an issue for next year’s election. P.C. Leader Patrick Brown is accusing Premier Wynne of having ‘an agenda to reopen debates about divisive social issues.
The the Liberals tabled a bill this week to created ‘safe zones’ around abortion clinics but then refused to fast track the legislation at the urging of the Tories. Deputy Premier Deb Matthews explained that the government wants input on the legislation before it is passed.
Brown says he thinks the Liberals are trying to paint his party as anti-choice and trying to demonize him in the process.
The next provincial election is eight months away.
