Despite finishing last in the party leadership race, Quebec MP Guy Caron will be the NDP’s point person in the Commons.

Newly elected leader Jagmeet Singh making the announcement after his first caucus meeting since last Sunday’s first ballot victory.
Singh says having Caron lead the party during question period was an ”easy decision.”
”I wanted to convey two key things. One, I’ve always talked about the importance of Quebec. Quebec is incredibly important not only to my party, not only to all New Democrats, but also to the progressive movement.”
The NDP won 59 seats in the province in the 2011 election and then saw that number fall to just 16 four years later.
Singh, who has been an MPP since 2011, says he would consider running for a federal seat before the next election, but has to find one that has an ”authentic connection” with him.
