Flu season is just around the corner and health officials are again advising you to get a flue shot and warning that a tough flu season in the Southern Hemisphere could be a warning sign of what’s in store for Canada in the next few months.

In early September, the majority of influenza cases in Canada came from a virus known as H3N2, a virus is historically linked to heavier flu seasons and is known to be particularly hard on seniors.

Flu season in Canada typically runs from November to March and Ontario typically sees about a thousand flu-related deaths per year.

If you’re not planning to get a flue shot, you’re advised to wash your hands vigorously and often and cover your cough.
