SHORTLIST RELEASED FOR ROGERS WRITERS' TRUST

Just a day after after announcing it was doubling the prize money, the Rogers Writers’ Trust has released the short list of this year’s contenders.
Toronto born, B.C. based author David Chariandy is nominated for his second novel “Brother.”  It is already in contention for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Also nominated are Omar El Akkad’s futuristic “American War”, Claire Cameron’s science-and gender-focused “The Last Neanderthal”,  Leanne Betasamosake Simpson’s “This Accident of Being Lost” and Carleigh Baker’s short story collection “Bad Endings”

This year’s winner will receiver $50,000 and the four nominees recognized as having written the year’s best Canadian novel or short story collection will receive $5,000.
Past winners include, Alice Munro, Lawrence Hill and Emma Donoghue.
The winner will be announced in Toronto in November 14th.
