Equifax plans to update Canadians this week – on the impact of the gigantic data breach it was hit with.
The credit data company says the update will include how Equifax intends to notify any potentially impacted individuals.
Last Friday, Canada’s privacy commissioner said an investigation has begun into the cyberattack and Equifax has committed to contacting Canadians in writing – whose data may be at risk.
Equifax revealed on September 7th that it was the victim of a vast cyberattack in the summer – that may have compromised the personal data of 143 million Americans and an undisclosed number of Canadian and U.K. residents.
Equifax has since said that approximately 400,000 U.K. individuals may have been affected – but it hasn’t released the number of Canadians whose data may have been stolen – including names, addresses and social insurance numbers.
