Equifax Canada customer service agents are telling concerned callers – that only Canadians who’ve had dealings in America – are likely to be affected by the massive hack announced last week.
But agents say Canadians who have an Equifax account in the U.S. could be at risk of having their data compromised – such as those who’ve lived or worked south of the border – or applied for credit there.
The company’s website explains that Canadian and American credit files must be kept separate – because of differences in the various laws within the U.S. and Canada.
Equifax released the news last Thursday that a security breach occurred over the summer – which compromised the private information of up to 143 million Americans – along with an undisclosed number of Canadians and people in the U.K.
