Leaders of an expedition to find test models of the famed Avro Arrow fighter jet – say they’ll be sending divers – to take a closer look at a model recently discovered at the bottom of Lake Ontario.
The beaten-up test model was found upside-down and covered in zebra mussels – between 30 and 60 metres underwater near Belleville.
David Shea of Kraken Sonar Systems says photographs and video taken underwater – suggest the nose of the 1950’s-era test model was bent or damaged on impact – one of the characteristic triangular wings of the model is fully intact – and some of the paint appears to have survived.
