Toronto is considering conferring heritage status on more than 250 buildings in the mid-town area of the city including some lining Eglinton, Yonge, Bayview and Mount Pleasant.
It’s being called a bold move which is catching both developers and property owners by surprise. But Toronto – St. Paul’s Councillor Josh Matlow says the city is concerned that some historic buildings could be knocked down with out the city’s aproval.
Matlow says Toronto hasn’t done a particularly good job protecting its heritage and far too many architecturally or culturally important properties have been lost to the wrecking ball
The plan heritage still has to be approved by city council.
