TRUDEAU: RESPONSE TO BORDER CROSSERS SHOWS SYSTEM'S WORKING

Justin Trudeau says he understands the concerns of Canadians have about whether the spike in asylum-seekers crossing outside official border points in Quebec means the immigration system’s overwhelmed.

The prime minister maintains that’s not the case adding officials are effectively managing the surge in recent weeks.
The opposition Conservatives and New Democrats say it’s put unbearable pressure on Canada’s refugee programs and that the Liberals are not doing enough to address it.
However, Trudeau says a joint federal-provincial task force dealing with the issue is showing ”positive results”.
He made the remarks after meeting with the task force in Montreal and says its members have found ways to speed along the asylum process.
