Binge drinking and alcoholism could become a potential problem as we age.
A U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism study has found women, minorities and people over the age of 65 are experiencing increased rates of binge-drinking and alcoholism.
Researchers examined data that compared drinking habits over a 10-year period among more than 30,000 Americans.
While this study could not definitively say what caused this uptick, these findings suggest that these groups are at greater risk for issues associated with alcohol use.
Those issues include heart disease, liver disease, automobile accidents, high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes.
