Saying it was a ”distinct honour” to serve the past 32-years, York Centre MPP Monte Kwinter has announced he will not seek re-election in next year’s general election.
”I am proud of what we accomplished during that time in my riding, and it has been a privilege to serve under three Liberal premiers.”
First elected to the Legislature in 1985, Kwinter held three cabinet positions in David Peterson’s government.
He held two inner circle posts under former premier Dalton McGuinty.
Current premier Kathleen Wynne’s issued a statement.
”Monte’s representation for his constituency, for the Jewish community, and his stalwart exampled to MPPs of all stripes is a testament to his character.”
A nomination date for the riding will be announced at a later date.
