At the same time, the lawyer for the 22-year-old Ancaster man, whom  U.S. authorities allege was a ”hacker-for-hire” with Russian ties, is continuing talks behind the scenes to possibly waive the hearing and move to fight the charges directly south of the border.
Amedeo DiCarlo says those negotiations have been moving slower than he’d like and so he’s proceeding with the hearing.
”At this point, I’m standing firm, to challenge the extradition.  If something does come to light in the U.S. that totally changes my view point, obviously I’ll let everyone know.”
Baratov has been in custody since he was arrested in March after he and three others, including two alleged officers of Russia’s Federal Security Service, for computer hacking, economic espionage and other crimes.
If extradited and found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
