The Toronto Centre-Rosedale councillor and deputy mayor has missed council meetings the last two weeks.
Asked about her condition, Mayor John Tory said she is receiving ”the very best care” and that she’s a fighter and ”she will be fighting this as hard as she can,” but did not elaborate on the nature of her illness.
McConnell was present at several recent events in her ward, including the reopening of Berczy Park, where she was seen using a device to help her breathe.
She’s been a councillor since 1994 and before that was a school trustee for 12 years.
